When I first read “The Station” by Robert J. Hastings in the summer of 1992, I was a fresh-faced intern at @Alpha Software. Its message about living for the journey instead of focusing on the destination hit home. It became my guiding principle.
When I became a business owner, I found my inspiration in a message pulled from a fortune cookie and taped to my office door. It read: “You have done a good job so far, now work harder.”
If I were to write my own version of “The Station” or a fortune cookie message today, my advice would take the meaning of both a stretch farther and be: “You’ve done a great job. Relish the moment, toast your win, showcase it; then get back into the trenches and work harder.”
The lesson? Celebrate everything — the journey and all the wins you earn along the way — not just the big ones (i.e. graduation, marriage, retirement, etc.)
At our company, we practice what we preach. Next week, we’re launching a new channel publication called PartnerOn Journal featuring a “Toast a Win” section where readers and contributors will have opportunities to share their business victories; plus, a favorite celebratory drink. We’ve already gotten some recommendations on LinkedIn. Check them out.
As for your company’s business wins, we want to celebrate with you. Tell us about it, along with your drink of choice.
The launch of PartnerOn Journal isn’t the only news we have to share:
- B2B Marketing Exchange is coming February 24-26 to the Hyatt Regency, Scottsdale. A great educational and networking opportunity for channel sales and marketers, the event is jam-packed with sessions on channel marketing, sales enablement, demand generation, ABM marketing and more.
- Tech Data just signed on with ContentMX to deliver custom, Microsoft and Tech Data content streamed to partners’ devices.
